OUTDOOR TRACK:

Penn Relays

The Boston College Women’s Track Team had an exciting season all around but one of the highlights so far had to be winning the Penn Relays 4 X 1500 .  Caitlin Bailey ran a 4:25.2 handing off to Jillian King  who ran 4:18.8. Jillian handed off to Siobhan Breagy in second place and Siobhan, running 4:29.0 maintained that position giving Caroline King (4:12.2)  a chance to run down the Villanova and Georgetown girls in the final 100 meters. Caroline won MVP Collegiate Relay Women’s Athlete Award for this effort.

Caitlin Bailey ran a 2:07.11 qualifying time to advance to the finals, where she earned her third consecutive ECAC crown in 2:05.14.

Hope Krause took 16th in the 5,000 meter competition. The walk-on braved a field of 28 finalists, crossing in 17:02.17. Moira Kenny finished in 21st in the 10,000 meter contest, with a time of 38:03.30.While in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Bridget Dahlberg was a just a few seconds shy of her PR, taking 13th in 10:49.28.

During the same weekend in New Haven, Conn., Jillian King claimed the New England 800 meter Championship with a time of 2:07.89, becoming the first half-mile winner for the Eagles at this regional competition.

INDOOR TRACK

ACC Championships:

During the indoor season Caroline King won the ACC 800 meters in 2:06.28. Other top performances include the second place finish of the Distance Medley Relay team consisiting of Caroline King,  Sara Missert, Madi Wallace, and Jillian King.

The Boston College Women’s Cross-Country team enjoyed a very successful season. The first big test in the fall was the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, and the Eagles got rolling early, finishing in sixth place while defeating 4 of the top 25 ranked teams in the nation. Led by Jillian and Caroline King who were both among the  top ten individual finishes, and the surprise top 25th  finish by walk-on Hope Krause, the Eagles soared into the national rankings. Two weeks later the Eagles placed 5 runners in the top 12 of the New England Championships in capturing their second consecutive team title. Our junior varsity placed 7 in the top ten individuals, led by the individual winner,  Madeline Wallace. This race marked the debut of walk-on sophomore Elizabeth O’Brien, and Madi and Elizabeth would later  make a significant contribution to the varsity seven.

Boston College hosted the ACC championship at Franklin Park. Once again led by the King sister’s, the Eagles ran a strong team race finishing in 4th place only a few points out of second place. Both  Caroline and Jillian King earned All-ACC honors at this race. This was a turning point for the team and they left Franklin Park confident that they could run with the top teams in the nation.

At the NCAA Regional meet in Madison, Connecticut  the Eagles needed a top 4 team finish to qualify for the NCAA championships.  Senior Caroline King, Junior Hope Krause, and Sophomore Jillian King earned All-Northeast Regional honors as the number 22 ranked Eagles scored all five athletes in the top 30 to take 4th place with 92 points. The field was comprised of 35 teams from the New England/New York region.

At the NCAA championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, Senior Caroline King capped a phenomenal season with an All- American performance to lead the Eagles  to its lowest score in six years. Junior Hope Krause was outstanding, finishing 55th. Jillian King placed 91st  and Sophomore Elizabeth O’Brien and Junior Madeline Wallace rounded out the top five finishers.  The eagles finished 19th in the 31 team field.
